Now that we are entering the fall season, the weather is getting cooler and the roads a bit busier. Some nonmembers
are coming back to PGI, so say hello to them and ask them to join you at PGICA.
Mark your calendars for these upcoming events:
The Big Red Bus…is coming to PGICA’s parking lot October 27 from 11am–3 pm. The blood drive sponsored by
PGICA in February resulted in ten units of blood. Remember, each donation can save up to three lives so that means
thirty patients could benefit from the lifesaving efforts of blood donors at PGI Civic Association. Save a pint and donate!
Flu vaccines cause antibodies to develop in the body about two weeks after vaccination. These antibodies provide
protection against infection with the viruses that are in the vaccine. The seasonal flu vaccine protects against
the influenza viruses that research indicates will be most common during the upcoming season.
The best time to get a flu shot is right after vaccines become available in the fall. Everyone, except infants younger than
6 months, is recommended to get the flu shot as soon as it becomes available. A flu shot is highly recommended for
people aged 65 and older, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In comparison to their
younger, healthier counterparts, people in this age group are at increased risk for complications if they contract the flu.
2017 FLU VACCINATION CLINIC - Sarasota Health Care Services, Inc., is offering the 2017 FLU VACCINATION
CLINIC, Tuesday, October 3 and November 7 from 11 am–1 pm at PGICA. No appointment is necessary for this clinic.
SHCS, Inc., will bill Medicare for the vaccine you receive. Bring your insurance card and identification card to the clinic.
SHCS, Inc., will offer the traditional Flu vaccine, the High Dose Flu Vaccine, PPSV23 Pneumonia Vaccine, and the new
Prevnar-13 Pneumonia vaccine.
