BEYOND OURSELVES Marlene Hofer, marlenehofer@comcast.net
Dear All Members of PGICA:
We are so fortunate to live in PGI and have this association and building to work in and socialize with our friends and
neighbors. Most of the clubs and activities in PGICA revolve around social and friendly activities which enhance and
broaden all of our social lives and bring good friends into our homes, boats, and when we are “out and about” in Punta
Gorda and surrounding areas in Charlotte County.
The Beyond Ourselves organization was organized with a different slant. We are the charitable arm of PGICA that
reaches out to the less fortunate in our county. Although we have become a group of good friends, our main objective is
to help others less fortunate in Charlotte County. Our main goals are to help the homeless, the wildlife, “Peace River
Wildlife Center,” and the needy children of Charlotte County. Our activities over the past eight years have donated over
$250,000 to our local charities. Be sure to come to our B.O.B. this year which is described below. Our largest and most
profitable activity, The Annual Home Tour, February 3, 2018, benefits the needy children of Charlotte County-Cooper
Street, Back Pack Kidz, and Crossroads Hope Academy. The Tour takes about 300 people over the year to work on
publicity, promotion, donations, host homeowners, parking, sponsors, photography, and docents/guides for each home.
Again, I repeat, we are so fortunate to live in PGI and share the fellowship that brightens our lives and bring such good
friendships into our homes. Please consider joining our group to work on a charitable activity. We call on men as well as
woman to help in our endeavors to help the needy in our neighborhood. We meet every third Wednesday at 10 a.m., at
PGICA from September to May. Join us on October 18 at 10 a.m., to see how you can help even for an hour or a day or
just call and volunteer for an assortment of small tasks.
Sincerely, Marlene Hofer, President
