DIVE CLUB Judy Minier, 941-979-7316, judyminier@earthlink.net, www.pgidiveclub.com
Greetings from the Punta Gorda Civic Association Dive Club! Our club exists
for the purpose of promoting the scuba diving interests of our members (and to
support our parent organization, the Civic Association), regardless of the diving
skill or experience one may have. If you have an interest in diving, please
attend one of our monthly meetings, held on the fourth Thursday at 7 p.m., at
the Civic Association. And for anyone interested in meeting divers or learning
about our Club in an informal
setting, come to the Tiki Hut on
Charlotte Harbor behind the
Sheraton Four Points Hotel. We
congregate at 5:30 for a social-
hour on the second Thursday of
each month. You’ll know who we
are by our dive-themed name
tags as we gather on the beach
or at the picnic tables. We are
always happy to meet anyone
who enjoys conversations about
diving (special equipment, far-
flung dive experiences,
underwater photography and so
on) and life in Punta Gorda in
general. We are a very social
club as evidenced by our recent
group dinner at Beef O’Brady’s.
Our Social Committee is quite
active in finding ways for our
group to gather and enjoy one
another’s company and share
dive experiences.
While writing this article, it should
be noted that we are in the early
stages of Hurricane Irma bearing
down on Florida, so diving may be on hold for a time as things get sorted out around us and in the Caribbean. Some
tentative plans are already in
the queue for club members
around Florida. One of the
popular options is to once again
explore the Blue Heron Bridge
at West Palm Beach. Blue
Heron offers a great place for
night dives as well as a
surprising number of critters to
be seen in fairly shallow, easy
to make shore dives. Members
also enjoy going back to the
Keys (Largo and West). So
those trips are in our plans if
the areas are not significantly
damaged by the hurricane. The
private tour/dive of the Epcot
Center aquarium (Dive Quest)
in November at Disney World is
fully booked and should be
unaffected by any weather
conditions since it is an indoor
dive.
Another popular idea is for us to
dive with the giant Goliath
Grouper fish near Jupiter
