Yes, it’s officially Autumn which means the rain should have stopped falling, the temperatures should be falling, and
Newcomers Club should be falling into a new season of activities. Summer was rainy but members managed to keep
busy and had a lot of fun at some unconventional general meetings like the picnic and game night. Here’s hoping to see
members “fall” back into Punta Gorda for the next few months called “season”!
What better way to start October than Happy Hours at the St. Andrews South Country Club, 1901 Deborah Drive, on
Wednesday, October 4 and 18. Michelle Maloney, macaloney@bellsouth.net, and Susan Brown,
exgatorceo@yahoo.com, greet members and prospective members and Big Bob, the Club’s bartender, makes sure
there are appetizers and drinks aplenty. It is a cash or credit card bar. If you have recently ordered name tags, they are
usually picked up here. The event runs from 5 to 7 p.m., or a bit longer and many members take it a step further by
heading out to local restaurants for a meal afterwards. Join the fun and make a new acquaintance who may become a
new BFF!
Hosted Dinners are a great way to enjoy a meal in another member’s home while being responsible for your own drink
and a dish to pass. MaryAnne Darst, madarst@kw.com, 912-226-8471, will put you with two to three other couples and
a host. Together you decide on a mutually convenient date and time. The host/hostess will have participated in the
dinners previously and will make you feel at home even when you’re not! Make sure you let MaryAnne know you want
to participate. She keeps a list of which months you will or will not be available before making up the lists. It is helpful for
all if you remind her of months when you’ll be too busy or mostly away.
Ladies of the club who enjoy lunch about town will be headed to Carmelo’s at 209 W. Olympia on Wednesday, October
11, at noon. Great food and a wonderful atmosphere makes this a winning and popular place. Be sure to sign up on the
club website calendar or contact Deb Morlachetta at debrat114@comcast.net, 609-502-8243.
Men also like to lunch and they will head to Cass Cay Restaurant, 3200 Matecumbe Key Road, Punta Gorda (in Burnt
Store Marina) on Wednesday, October 11, at noon. All members are welcome to join and don’t even have to sign up in
advance. Any questions can be directed to Jay Darst at 913-220-8471 or Joe Bukowski at 973-769-2310.
October’s General Membership meeting will be a ghastly or ghostly event on Tuesday, October 17, at the PGICA
building at 5:30 p.m. Susan McKittrick and a committee of fun members have made Halloween themed plans for the
evening and the club will provide the food. Check the club
e-blast and website for more information and sign up on the
club’s website calendar.
Dine Around
Another opportunity to eat with folks you know and ones
you’ve yet to dine with is the Wednesday, October 25 Dine

Gorda at 5:30 p.m. You should sign up for the event on the
club’s website calendar or contact Rosanne Kruse,
941-916-1754, k2home@yahoo.com, or MaryAnne Darst,
