TENNIS CLUB Don Holway, dbh1124@live.com

The courts are in great shape and have been getting lots of use during the summer
months. As we get into September, more members will be returning from various
summertime travels and the courts will be ready for the heavy use of the winter season.

Planned maintenance will include replacement of worn nets, rebuilding court squeegees
and pressure cleaning the playing surface. The Podocarpus “wind screen” on the north side
of the courts is growing well, but will still need some more time to create the screen effect.

Planning for the competitive tennis season is underway. The three men’s teams and two
women’s teams are finalizing their rosters. League play begins in late October, however
new team members can be added before the end of January. Any members interested in
playing on a competitive, league team can use the contact information below to get more information.

Please remember, do not use the ball machine if the courts or the balls are wet. Using wet or damp balls in the machine
will cause damage to the internal parts.

Scheduling reminder: Our courts are now on the Summer Schedule for dedicated time. Use our online scheduling
website to reserve the ball machine and court time during non-dedicated time periods. http://pgitennis.wikispaces.com
Full instructions for using the Reservation System are included on the website.

New members are always welcome regardless of their level of play. Membership in the PGICA Tennis Club is the best
deal in town. A family membership is $75 per year after a one time $100 initiation fee. For more information please visit
our web-site at www.pgica.org/clubs/tennis.htm or contact Don Holway at 941-347-4420, dbh1124@live.com.

Rule of the Month from USTA Publication “2017 Friends at Court”. Rule 27 pertaining to Correcting Errors.

As a principle, when an error in respect of the Rules of Tennis is discovered, all points previously played shall stand.
Errors so discovered shall be corrected as follows:
Errors as to Ends, Sides, Rotation, Service. Order, Etc. The general guiding philosophy regarding any mistakes made
by players in failing to change ends, serving from wrong ends, serving to the wrong court, receiving from the wrong
court, etc., is this: Any such error shall be rectified as soon as discovered but not while the ball is in play, and any points
completed under the erroneous condition shall be counted.

One exception to the “rectify immediately” requirement is in the case of a doubles match where the players of one team
happened to reverse their left court/right court receiving lineup in the middle of a set, and the switch is discovered in the
middle of a game. In this case the players finish that game in the “new” positions, but resume their original lineup in all
receiving games thereafter in that set.

If you are interested in reading the book “2017 Friend at Court”, the full compilation of USTA rules, you can find it online
at the USTA website: https://www.usta.com/content/dam/usta/pdfs/Friend%20at%20Court.pdf. It makes sense to know
         the rules.

         SEE YOU AT THE COURTS!
