PGICA ACOUSTIC MUSIC CLUB Dan Osborne, 941-505-2509, josborned@yahoo.com
This being the beginning of the season, it would be fitting for
the Acoustic Music Club to introduce itself and review its
history. In past years at the PGICA there was a need for more
music so the Acoustic Music Club was formed and it has
prospered for the past four years. In the summer we generally
have three to six members, whereas in the winter season as
many as twelve members are expected.
The purpose of the club is to provide a venue where acoustic
musicians can meet to play on a weekly basis. Generally we
meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday evenings at the PGICA
Clubhouse. Our skill levels and musical interests vary widely.
We enjoy many different genres of music including folk, pop,
classic rock, blues, country, and old
time favorites. Most of us play guitar
however we also have enjoyed
music played on the banjo, dobro,
harmonica, acoustic bass guitar,
ukulele, fiddle and mandolin.
Emphasis is placed on respectful
listening, learning from others, and
sharing favorite songs with the
group. One of our goals is to
become more proficient at playing
songs together. This has been
possible because the club maintains
a Dropbox account with many song
sheets that can be easily shared
with club members using tablets.
Membership is limited to PGICA
members who play acoustic
instruments. To create more of a
sense of community we do meet on
occasion at private homes and we
encourage spouses to join us for
Acoustic Music four years ago social interaction as well as listening
to music.
Although we are not a performance
oriented group, some of our
members do play professionally with
other groups that entertain in the
local area. The Acoustic Music Club
has been involved with
performances such as the openings
for the William Florian concerts
several years ago at the PGICA.
Going forward, we continue to look
for new members who have an
interest in playing acoustic music. If
you join us, soon you will discover
that we are a welcoming and non-
threatening music group. Contact
Dan Osborne at
josborne@yahoo.com for meeting
information and to be placed on our
email roster.
