Last month we celebrated Flag Day. This month we will be celebrating
the Fourth of July. For many of us these holidays involve flying our flags.
How does yours look? As I boat and drive through our neighborhood, I
see many flags that should not be on display. Our winds wreak havoc on
the flags that fly 24/7.
The United States Flag Code states that when the flag is in such
condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, it should be
destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning. When you retire your
old flag, what do you do with it? May I make a suggestion?
The Civic Association has been a drop-off for worn flags for some time.
PGICA is proud to receive these flags. We take these worn out flags to
the Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home, Cemetery and Crematory. They
retire each flag donated to them in the most respectful and honorable
way. They cremate them with an honorably discharged veteran. This
ensures the veteran and the flag receive the honor they deserve. Please consider replacing your old, worn-out flag. Then
bring the old one to us.
