PARADISE FRIENDS Dan Kain, 248-210-0350, dkain01@gmail.com, paradisefriends.peapps.com

Welcome to the dog days of summer. Did you know the phrase originally had nothing to do with
dogs, or even with the lazy days of summer? As it turns out, the dog days refer to the dog star,
Sirius, and its position in the heavens. To the Greeks and Romans, the “dog days” occurred around
the day when Sirius appeared to rise just before the sun, in late July. They referred to these days as
the hottest time of the year, a period that could bring fever, or even catastrophe. Hopefully, we won’t
be having any fevers or catastrophes.

Join us for these activities in July and August:

Friends to Go – This is a new feature. Those of you on Facebook should keep an eye out for pop-up events posted to
the Paradise Friends group. These are impromptu events organized by whoever posts the suggestion. It can be anything
from the gallery/lunch trip we had to Matlacha or to the Short Film Festival group. If there’s something you want to do but
don’t want to wait until it becomes a Choice event, or you just want a little company, then post it to the Facebook group
and see who else wants to join you. It could be as simple as going kayaking, touring a garden, a lunch or maybe a trip to
         the beach.

Tables of 8 – The best way to get
to know people is in a small
         group. Here’s the perfect
         opportunity. However, just
because it's called Tables of 8
doesn’t mean it must always be 8.
If a host only wants 6 in the group,
or wants more than 8, that's up to
         them to decide. The hosting
         assignments will rotate. You
should expect to be a host
         approximately every fourth month
you participate. If you don’t want
to host in your home, just make a
reservation at a restaurant of your
choice - how easy is that? If you
do want to host in your own home,
         each Paradise Friend guest will
bring a dish to share. Either way,
this is a great way to get together
         with longtime friends and meet
         new ones. The next gatherings
will be held on July 6 and are
already set, but if you want to get
on the list for August 3 sign up on
our website by July 24. For Men’s Lunch at Sandras
September 7, sign up by August
         21. For more info contact Nancy
         Gamblin at nkgamblin@aol.com.

Ladies Lunch Bunch – Please join us for lunch at noon on Thursday, July 13 at The Perfect Caper, 121 East Marion Ave.
The Perfect Caper is a casually elegant neighborhood restaurant with something for everyone. The ladies will again meet
for lunch on Thursday, August 10 at a location not yet selected at press time. Please visit the Paradise Friends website
and watch for email blasts for updates. Please use the calendar to sign up so that we can let the restaurants know how
         many are attending.

Chow Hounds Men’s Lunch Bunch – At noon on Thursday July 13, the destination will be Dean’s South of the Border.
Dean’s offers something for everyone with a wide array of Tex Mex & American Classics. There's always a party going
         on at Dean's.

On August 10, join the men at Hurricane Charley's. Overlooking the Peace River, their menus are eclectic. Try the fresh
seafood dishes; including gumbos, crayfish, full belly clams, oysters and scallops. Or try steaks, sandwiches, burgers or
salads. No sign up needed, just show up. For more info contact Bert Leitsch at Bert370@ix.netcom.com.
