Last month we reviewed some of the cosmetic changes by the new Windows 10 update
referred to as the Creators Update. As your computer is updated, you will find there are
some major changes that are not apparent until you try to find a function or app.
One of the most annoying changes is the removal of the Control Panel from the Windows
X menu and no obvious place to find it. Microsoft has been moving control options to the
expanded Settings menu. Unfortunately, the addition of functions is not complete and
Control Panel is still available with a little effort. The easy solution is to install a control
panel shortcut on the desktop: Click the Windows Key, select Settings, then Personalization, Themes, Related Settings,
Desktop Icon settings, and check the Control Panel box. While there consider checking Computer, Recycle Bin, and if on
a network check it if these icons are not on your desktop. This will give immediate access to these functions. If you right
click the control panel desktop icon, you will have the option to place the shortcut on the Start menu and/or toolbar.
An improvement included in the Settings menu is the combination of Bluetooth and all other devices in a single page.
Bluetooth may be turned on or off by a toggle switch and your other devices are available for modification.
Recently a couple of people have had problems with their C drives becoming full. In both incidents, it was due to cloud
backup programs that also allow backup on the computer or network device, and the backup was targeted for the C
drive. NEVER back up to the drive you are backing up, because if the drive fails, your backup is not available for
recovery and a complete backup will quickly fill a hard drive if not monitored.
Microsoft is now planning to schedule two major updates a year that will cover Windows 10 and Microsoft Office.
Windows 10 includes a new option to schedule installation of updates to avoid conflicts with your computer use.
Our Monday June 19 meeting will be the last until fall. Please join us if you can.

THE ISLES GIRLS & GUYS
ASSISTANCE PROGRAM...
Started over 25 years ago and has been one of
PGICA's most successful volunteer programs. Their
original goal was, and still is, to provide a service to
members by holding estate
and moving sales. Buyers
are responsible for removal
and transportation of all
purchased items.
The Isles Girls and Guys do
it all. All proceeds from the
sale are presented to the
homeowner who in turn
donates 20% to the
PGICA.
Visit www.pgica.org for up-to-date information on
current sales dates.
