Have you ever been snorkeling? Do you enjoy paddling underwater in
your own pool? Do you like boating over crystal clear ocean waters
seeing the coral reefs and fish below and wondering what it is like to join
them? Well, if you put these all together and add some air in a tank
which allows you to stay underwater to check out the life below, you
have a small idea of what we divers experience each time we don our
gear and make a dive! Every excursion below is memorable and unique
though part of the fun is meeting fellow divers back on the surface to compare notes and write up the account in your
log book. Some of our members have done literally hundreds of dives (or more) and always look forward to that next
adventure. We all feel lucky to be part of a fun group of folks who appreciate our precious seas and earth’s life
(including ours) they support.
Big plans are afoot by our Dive Committee to
organize a Group Dive Vacation, possibly to
Honduras, Bonaire, or Barbados in the coming
year. Some members like the experience of
being on a “live-aboard” ship which gives divers
a chance to live the easy life of being catered to
at sea while doing up to 4 to 5 dives in a day. Of
course, everyone also appreciates being
pampered at dive resorts as well which provide
comfort and tropical luxury and lots of diving
from the shore or in short boat trips out to the
reefs. We are enthusiastically looking forward to
more information about diving in these nearby
but yet slightly exotic locations.
Also in the offing is taking a group to participate
in the Disney Dive Quest tour in the fall. Diving
in the large aquarium among the plethora of fish
and seeing people on the other side of the glass
watching you is an experience not to be missed.
In the near future, the Dive Committee is
considering a Local Dive Vacation to Tavernier Key or Key Largo to sample another location in “local” waters.
Two members shared their recent dive experiences to Jupiter Beach and a cruise to the Caribbean. As usual on these
dives there were lots of fish to see and at Jupiter, there was a plethora of sharks – Lemon, Bull, and Nurse, plus turtles
which are always fun to watch. At Jupiter, it is also possible to do an outer reef dive where the sting rays and giant
goliath groupers can be found.
We also plan our fun when we are above
water and upcoming events will feature a
th
4 of July party, a social outing at Beef
O’Brady’s in August, and a Christmas
Party. Plans have been put forward for us
to organize a boat for the annual holiday
boat parade to show off our decorating
talents and advertise our club. It’s not too
early to plan ahead.
In addition to welcoming new members to
the club, we held a raffle for a prized Dive
Club tee-shirt won by Sam Belshaw. Frank
Panhuise has informed the club that he
found a seamstress who will embroider
shirts or jackets with our Dive Club logo at
a very reasonable price. If members bring
such items to the next meeting, they will be
taken to her for sewing.
Our club exists to promote the scuba diving
interests of our members, whatever skill or
