Happy Father’s Day to all you dads out there! How’s that for once giving kudos to the men in our lives who have helped
us get to where we are! And moms out there, sorry we didn’t give accolades to you for Mother’s Day or to our fallen
veterans on Memorial Day in the previous edition of the Commentator.
Newcomers Club members are finding they are missing many
of their friends who travelled back to other parts of the country
or are taking the summer to spend time in northerly places,
though not necessarily cooler ones. While we miss them,
there are still plenty of things to keep Club members busy
through the summer.
Happy Hours are always a big hit on the first and third
Wednesday of the month (June 7 and 21) at 5 p.m. at St.
Andrews South Country Club, 1901 Deborah Drive. Questions
about the Happy Hours can be directed to Susan Brown,
exgatorceo@yahoo.com or Michelle Maloney,
macaloney@bellsouth.net. The last few events have been well
attended and extended past the 7 p.m. timeline. Grab some Helen Cochran, Frances Frost
and Mike Cochran
other Newcomers and head out to dinner afterwards
when the restaurants aren’t so crowded!
Hosted Dinners continue into the summer months. Let
Maryanne Darst know you wish to participate at
913-226-8471 or madarst@kw.com during any of the
summer months or beyond. These are casual dinners
in a host home with other couples responsible for side
dishes for the group. It is always BYOB and is
scheduled at a time convenient for the host home and
others attending.
Ladies’ Lunch will meet Wednesday, June 14 at a time
and place to be announced. Deb Morlachetta at
609-502-8243 or debrat114@comcast.net can provide
more information. Look in your email for information or

Operations Chief of PGFD another! Contact Joe Bukowski at 973-769-2310,

madarst@kw.com for more information. As always, the
men don’t need to sign up for the event and they never
go away hungry or thirsty!
We’ve turned the General Membership Meeting into an
inside PICNIC for the month of June. We will meet with
our picnic or beach blankets, beach chairs, and
umbrellas at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 20 at the
PGICA large meeting room. There will be no speaker
this month but a great time is expected for all. Look for
information in your emails about additional help that
might be needed to set up and prepare for the event.
We recently had two great general membership
meeting speakers. Holden Gibb of the Punta Gorda
Fire Department gave a great overview of emergency
services provided by the EMS units as well as showed
new CPR procedures and use of the AED’s. Nancy
