Cruising: Cruise captain awards presented at the December meeting went to Sue and Gene
Fuller and Dave and Dede Commens for the Cruise to Nowhere, Jim and Joann
Waschbusch for the cruise to the Venice Fine Arts Show, Diane and Chris Port for the cruise
to Marina Jack’s, Nan and Kevin Lee for the cruise to Longboat Key Club Moorings, Bob and
Kate Peterson for the Sunday brunch at the Isles Yacht Club, Don Holway for the lunch
cruise to Callaloo Restaurant on Alligator Creek, Jack and Joan Osborne for the Sunset
Lake cruise, and Tyler Swanson and Ron Vendegna for the cruise to the Fort Myers River
District. December cruises are the annual holiday stroll at South Seas Island Resort and the
annual New Year’s Eve cruise to Pelican Bay. We are working on a January cruise, and a cruise to Aquamarina Palm
Harbour at Cape Haze is scheduled for February. Check out our website for all cruise information at

Education: Our December meeting’s educational
speaker was Officer John Kennedy from the Punta
Gorda Police Department. He spoke about boat speed
in relation to seawall failures and how important it is to
slow down. We also learned that sailboats need to be
mindful of their bow wake. Our January educational
speaker will be Bobby Brown, sales manager of
Waterproof Charts, Inc., here in Punta Gorda. Bobby is
a lifelong boater, both power and sail, who ended up in
Punta Gorda after sailing his 46-foot sloop from British
Columbia.

Social: The PGIslanders’ holiday party was on
December 20. As always, it was a fun night with
wonderful food and dancing the night away. The
January social event will be a class reunion on January
21. Details are still in the works, but Sue Linehan asked
us to go find a high school graduation picture. It has
been a while since we have done this one. Stay tuned
for a future article.
