several inches long) are rare and
can fetch top dollar by collectors.
Upcoming events always include
parties and get togethers for the
holidays, so the social committee is
busy making arrangements for
December’s holiday gathering. We
are fortunate that folks are willing to
host these events and that we have
a treasury to support such get
togethers. This year we also plan to
have a Dive Club boat in the Annual
Boat parade, which should be a
wonderful event for those who can
decorate the vessel and then join
the parade for a fun evening on the
water.
In addition to hosting parties, some
members are doing long-range
planning to dive at Pompano Beach,
Honduras in January, Caymans in
February and other slightly exotic
locations as we head into the new
year.
Here is our reminder to newcomers to Punta Gorda: Our Dive Club exists for the purpose of promoting the scuba diving
interests of our members (and to support our parent organization, the Civic Association), regardless of the diving skill or
experience one may have. If you have an interest in diving, please attend one of our monthly meetings, held on the
fourth Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Civic Association. And for anyone interested in meeting divers or learning about our
Club in an informal setting, come to the Tiki Hut on Charlotte Harbor behind the Sheraton Four Points Hotel. We
congregate at 5:30 p.m. for a social hour on the second Thursday of each month. You’ll know who we are by our
dive-themed name tags as we gather on the beach or at the picnic tables. We are always happy to meet anyone who
enjoys conversations about diving (special equipment, far-flung or worldly dive experiences, underwater photography,
and so on) and life in Punta Gorda in general.
Be sure to also check out our website, www.pgidiveclub.com for information about the Club, photos for your perusal, and
a membership application form which can be downloaded and brought to a meeting. Dues are $15 per member per
year. You can also send an email to our club address on the banner at the beginning of this article if you have questions
about the club or our activities and scheduled events.
Remember, divers, the deeper you go, the cooler it gets. Let’s get wet, make some bubbles, and practice safe diving,
everyone!

VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH - DECEMBER 2016 Susan Della-Corte, susandc.mail@gmail.com
The Shorebird Bowling league is rolling along. At the time I’m writing this, the PGI Albatross are
still in first place. You might remember they were last season’s champions. The second half of the
season starts in early January. At that time, we will have space available to add additional teams
and full time bowlers.
If you’re interested in joining our league please, contact Mike Fauci (Hawks) ASAP. If you’re not
sure about bowling in a league, just come out and try it one Monday. The league needs substitute
bowlers on a regular basis.
We bowl every Monday. After a short warm up period, we promptly start bowling at 3 p.m. You do
not need to have your own equipment. Balls and shoes are available at the alleys.
The alleys are Bowland, 3192 Harbor Boulevard, Port Charlotte.
For additional information, please e-mail Mike at mmto315@gmail.com.
