NEIGHBORHOOD MARINE WATCH
A DIFFERENT KIND OF VOLUNTEER GROUP
Recently it has been reported that better than 70% of available lots in PGI have been
built out or are currently under construction. Along with the building boom comes an
increase of docks with expensive boats and equipment. This gives thieves more
opportunity to target our community, as easy pickings for their criminal activity.
The PGI Marine Watch Group is planning to expand its nightly surveillance patrols during the
hours when most criminal activity occurs. In a recent interview, Bill Guenther, founder of the
PGI Neighborhood Marine Watch program explained that members have been instructed in
what constitutes suspicious and illegal activity, not only on the water but on vacant lots and
homes under construction in the PGI Waterfront Community.
Boaters who are willing to monitor activity in the canals and inlets will find that the two hours of volunteer service
each month is unique and like no other volunteer commitment in Southwest Florida.
Marine Watch Coordinators are confident that with so many new people
coming in to our waterfront paradise, volunteers will step forward.
An increase membership leads to increased nightly surveillance.
