PGICA ACOUSTIC MUSIC CLUB Dan Osborne, 941-505-2509, josborned@yahoo.com
We continue to have a good level of interest in the Acoustic Music Club as
one can see by a recent meeting of ours. Attendance will be less going
forward, so if you are wishing to play music with a smaller group, now is your
chance.
Our series of featured musicians
continues this month with our newest
member, John Welsh. Many of you may
know John because he is active in the
community; Past Commodore of the PG
Sailing Club, President of the Boaters
Alliance, and a board member for Team
Punta Gorda.
John grew up in the Kansas City, Missouri area where he
attended high school and later married his wife, Diane. Music
was a big part of his life in his early years. At the ripe old age of
15 he formed a folk group and performed in clubs and coffee
houses for six nights a week from 9 p.m. until 1 a.m. throughout
his high school years. When did you do your homework, John?
When he got drafted in 1967, John made the best of his time by
entertaining at officers clubs during his years of active duty. He
continued to play in clubs in the Kansas City area while
attending
college.

John Welsh For his
early years
after college
where he earned a BA in mass communication, John worked as a
DJ and was the director for a TV station where he directed the pre-
game shows for the Royals baseball games. Although John was
already highly educated with multiple degrees which included an MA
and PH.D, he sought to be certified in numerous fields, which
included healthcare management, which now consumed his working
years until retirement. Much of his employment had him in
leadership roles for various health care institutions and international
consulting companies. His occupational endeavors took him many
countries overseas, which included the Middle East, Far East, North
Africa, South America as well as much of the USA. John moved to
Punta Gorda in 2013, where he lives with his wife. John is an avid
sailor, is an instrument rated pilot, has had some acting success and
recently has joined the Acoustic Music Club. This brief outline does
not begin to mention all the accomplishments that John has had in
his life so far. We welcome John to our club and know he will be a Port Royals
true asset.
