Hopefully you were able to see the William Florian concert on March 17 that included the
opening by members of the Acoustic Music Club. Look forward to photos of the event in the
upcoming Commentator.
Bob Lumsden at the Pavilion
This month we are featuring Bob
Lumsden, who has been a club
member since its inception five years
ago. Here you see Bob making music back in the days when we
played outside in the pavilion. Bob was raised in Fredericksburg,
Virginia and attended high school and college in the area. It was at
college that he met his wife to be, Sallie, on a blind date! Bob is a
highly educated person having earned his BA, MA, and PhD all in
the field of education. After years of teaching industrial arts Bob
took on the challenge of school administration. His success in
administration led him to be a school superintendent. From here
Bob became the associate commissioner for the state of Kentucky,
where he was tasked with assisting distressed schools around the
state. After many years in public education, Bob chose to become
a private educational consultant that required much travel but
differing experiences throughout the USA.
Music was in Bob’s family so he had an early exposure to the
music of the region. He formed a band in high school and played
local gigs until
he discovered
girls and
basketball. Bob
has been a
Florida resident
since 2010 and
soon after the
Acoustic Music
Club was
formed, he
joined and has been a member ever since. Bob was involved in a
horrible traffic accident that has rendered him a paraplegic for life. In
spite of the setback his enthusiasm for music has continued and grown
stronger. He has written original songs and recorded a CD of his
favorite songs, and here you see the cover photo for that CD.
Regular attendance at our meetings was no longer possible so we
have had as many meetings as possible at his home. Going forward
Bob would like to record another CD and continue writing songs. We

all admire his continuing good spirit and wish him the best in the future.
