PGI FISHING CLUB Gary Skillicorn, garyskillicorn@hotmail.com
It’s humbling to take the reins of the large and active Punta Gorda Isles Fishing Club but I
look forward to the challenge. I want to recognize the great leadership of our past president
Jim McCarty and his outstanding team. I look forward to working with a similar cast of team
members.
I’m sure the holidays have taken time
away from fishing opportunities and the
cold fronts are often an obstacle. Even
still, a number of nice fish are being
reported by members. How about a 28
inch tripletail or an 18 inch sheepshead?
Even canal fishing has been productive
Gary Skillicorn with black drum, juvenile tarpon, snook,
and sheepshead. For those unfamiliar
with fishing the Florida waters, beware of saltwater catfish spines.
They can inflict painful injury to the unwary.
As of this writing, Red Tide (caused by microorganisms) has been
flirting with the Gulf waters along Lee and Charlotte coasts. Let’s
hope we don’t have another fish kill to deal with. Last year many club
members, in coordination with the City, stepped up to conduct a
major cleanup of the
PGI canals.
Our club is active year
round with fishing
events, picnics and
many other assorted
activities. Visit our
website at
www.pgifishingclub.org
and look at our
newsletter for the most
current activities going Chris Pflaum 16” Seatrout

The PGI Fishing Club is one of the finest fishing clubs in Florida. We average over
550 active members, from the novice fishermen and women who joined to learn to fish
our waters, to some of
Charlotte Harbor's top
anglers whose expertise
we look to in helping all
members enjoy and
become better anglers.
Our diversity of
knowledge is something
that makes our club so
great, and new members
are always welcome to
join and add to this
unique family of anglers.
