CELEBRATE LIFE Ladies Cancer Support Group Carol Davidson , 941-575-0956, dcdavidson@earthlink.net
We had a wonderful Christmas luncheon at St Andrew’s Golf Club. The food was delicious
and we shared stories, laughs and good cheer. Santa
visited and passed out candy canes and gifts. I included a
photo of Santa Claus and our group in last month’s story,
Today I am including a picture with fellow committee
member, Diane Mabey. I left after the party and was gone
for 22 days. I came back to surprising cold weather, 6
days before our January meeting.
Our planned speaker could not make it to our January
meeting. This gave us an opportunity to have a “sharing
meeting.” We
encouraged our
members to discuss
topics such as “where
you are in your
personal journey,
what's worked for you,
what's not worked for you, what you wished you'd
known when the journey began“ and whatever else
was on their mind. When we have these meetings,
there are always new topics that come up which helps
everyone. A new member joined us. She was
diagnosed with cancer last August. She has had two
surgeries and has recently been advised to have
chemotherapy. She appreciated the support and
suggestions of members who had been through similar
treatments. This is what our group is all about.
We have recently been working diligently to complete a
special project. We are trying to get an informational
handout to place in the Punta Gorda Isles Civic
Association, doctors offices and other areas to educate
women about our group of women who meet the first
Wednesday of every month at 10 a.m. at the PGICA.
We love to have new members and there is no fee or
dues charged.
We are very happy to announce that Dr. Daniel
Dosoretz will be our speaker on Wednesday, February
7. He is a radiation oncologist at 21st Century
Oncology. He was the founder of this company in Ft.
Myers, which now has facilities throughout the United
States and South America. We welcome guests who
are interested in hearing his presentation.
