PGISLANDERS Ron Vendegna, Vice Commodore, 941-916-2740, ronv1@comcast.net
Our new Commodore, Joanne Collins, presented her
2018 goals for the club, one of which is to increase the
“Fun Meter” to the max in 2018. The first meeting
already has the PGIslanders headed in that FUN
direction.
Cruising: Cruise Captain awards presented at the
January meeting went to Duane and Diane
Ising for the New Year’s Cruise to Pelican
Bay, which included a New Year’s Eve “Ball/
Fender” drop at “Punta Gorda midnight”. Six
boats were on the cruise, each receiving one
cruise credit for 2017 and another for 2018. Joanne
Everyone made it home on Monday before
the high winds hit later that day. Matt and Rhoda Ezra received their Cruise
Captain award for
the Holiday Stroll
Cruise to South
NY Sunrise Seas which had 21
boats attending. If
you have not been to South Seas for their Holiday Stroll, I
highly recommend it. Everyone had a wonderful time and
the harbor was magical with all the Christmas festivities.
As I write this article it’s a little nippy, so there are no
January cruises scheduled, but February has a cruise to
Aquamarina Palm Harbour on February 27, and other
cruises are in the works for February and March. Another
one of Joanne’s 2018 goals is to expand our cruising
destinations to new locations and to have even more New Year’s Breakfast Arrival
cruises than the 28 in 2017 (two more were canceled due
to weather).
Education and Entertainment: Our January speaker was
going to be Bobby Brown from Waterproof Chart Company, but
he had to cancel due to the flu so we will reschedule. We had
an entertaining impromptu replacement with several
PGIslanders telling boating stories and we all had some good
laughs and learned
some things also.
Robert Macomber,
an award-winning
and internationally
recognized author New Year’s Eve Raft-up
and lecturer, will be
our February speaker.
Social: January 29 is the Class Reunion Party lead by Sue and Rob
Linehan, and it sounds like they have some fun ideas planned using
graduation pics (hmmm, wonder how many of us will find those photos).
February 11 is our annual Road Rally which is always a big hit. The Rally
South Seas Resort leaders spend hours and hours preparing this event. We follow their clues to
the Rally route and find answers to tricky questions along the way. Whoever
answers the most questions and completes the route in the least amount of time wins. After the Rally we have a pot luck
dinner and recognition for the winners...talk about FUN! The PGIslanders will be carpooling for the Share the Love for
the Kids Home Tour on February 3. On March 18, the Annual BBQ will be held at the Civic Association.
Meet the PGIslanders: Interested in joining? Want to know more about us? Find out more at www.pgislanders.org. Our
monthly meetings are held the first Thursday of every month starting at 7 p.m. at the PGICA building. We always have a
presentation on a marine-related topic. We hold an informal social on the second and fourth Mondays of each month
from 5 to 7 p.m. at St. Andrews. For any questions about membership, contact our Membership Directors, MJ and Bob
Stevens, at 801-518-6045 or contact the Commodore, Joanne Collins, at 281-543-9018 for any other questions about
