PGI CAR CLUB Marlene Jones, 410-703-2252, marlenejones22@gmail.com
Hello everyone. And, to those members who have journeyed back to Punta Gorda from cooler places up North,
welcome back. We hope the summer was good to you and you didn’t suffer too much from the heat.
Many of our car club members were here
during the summer for activities such as
“Cars and Coffee,” the road trip Sunday
brunch at Bob’s Trains in Sarasota and
the Sarasota Classic Car Museum, as well
as numerous car shows and cruises to
Muscle Car Museum, downtown Ft.
Myers, Englewood and Port Charlotte.
Bob’s Trains is located just off Fruitville
Road, east of downtown Sarasota. The
site is comprised of four rail cars: one a
dining car, two for exploring the multitude
of memorabilia and photographs from the
heyday of the Ringling Circus and the
third is in various stages of restoration. A
labor of love for Bob who is also the chef
and maitre’d. While enjoying a delicious
meal and the ambiance of elegant railway
travel, Bob regaled the group with his
knowledge of the lives of John and Mabel
Bob’s Trains
Ringling and the thousands of circus
performers.
The Sarasota Classic Car Museum is the second
oldest continuously operated antique car museum in
the US. The museum features nearly 100 automobiles
including John and Mabel Ringling’s collection of Rolls
Royce autos, John Lennon’s 1965 Mercedes Benz,
Paul McCartney’s beloved Mini Cooper and Don
Garlits’ dragster number two. This is a breath-taking
view of 100 years of automotive history, from the
horseless carriage to representatives of the world’s
foremost automotive manufacturers, including Alfa
Romeo, Bentley, Cadillac, DeLorean, Edsel and
Ferrari.
Upcoming cruises include the Mote Marine Lab and
Aquarium, and the Echo Global Farm. Stay tuned for
plans from Bill and Jane Leach concerning the Cruise
to Cuba, November 30 to December 10, 2018.
Featured Car this month: A 2000 Acura NSX-T Targa Sport
Coupe purchased by John Maultsby, who is the second
owner of the car. This car has a CompTech supercharger
and a competition clutch and chassis. It was built to
compete with Ferrari’s and Porsche’s on the Grand Prix
racing circuit. According to John, “this car is scary fun to
drive, very low to the ground, is extremely quick and
handles like the grand prix race car that it is.”
The next meeting of PGICC is September 5 at the Muscle
Car Museum. Breakfast at 8 a.m., meeting at 9 a.m.
