IN MEMORIAM - RAY ROSE
Our Civic Association and the community at large lost a shining star when Ray Rose passed away on June 22. Our
thoughts and prayers are with his wife Carol and their two daughters.
Ray and Carol moved to PGI in 1998 and he almost immediately got involved with the printing and mailing of The
Commentator. Before long he was on the PGICA Board of Directors and served in many roles and on many
committees including a term as PGICA President. He served as the PGICA Government Liaison, representing the
association from 2006 until his death. He attended every Punta Gorda City Council and CRA meeting providing input
from the Association's Board of Directors to the City Council.
Ray served as the co-chair of the construction committee that created our beautiful facility. In 2005 he was on the
committee that hired Beth Magnin to be our executive director and became her mentor and friend for the next eleven
years. Ray represented the association for the Punta Gorda Land Development Regulation Committee which
ultimately converted the PGI deed restrictions to city codes. A huge accomplishment and tremendous benefit to the
Punta Gorda Isles community.
He was always finding ways to improve the experience members had in our facility. Like our audio visual systems,
computers and new spotlight on the dance floor just to name a few. He was the go to guy for just about anything and
always responded with a smile. In between all the other things he did he found time to start the Meek Geeks
computer club. He and Carol were also members of the PGI Cruising Club and for 17 years they coordinated the
mailing of The Commentator and found numerous ways for us to reduce costs along the way. Ray had a wealth of
knowledge about the workings of the civic association and always had its best interest at heart.
Outside the PGICA, Ray also served on the Marine Advisory Committee, he was a
Trustee of the Cultural Center, the Mural Society, the City Charter Review Committee,
and the Power Squadron.
A beautiful life that came to an end. He died as he lived, everyone's
friend. In our hearts a memory will always be kept, of one we loved,
and will never forget.
