Education - The May educational program featured Betty Staugler, who is the Florida Sea Grant
program extension agent for Charlotte County. Florida Sea Grant is a university-based program
that supports research, education and extension to conserve coastal resources and enhance
economic opportunities for the people of Florida. Betty had an excellent PowerPoint
presentation, titled “Marine Life in Charlotte Harbor”. She described to us the copious sea life
under the surface of our harbor. It was an excellent presentation appreciated by the members.

Cruising - We have had several cruises
since the last article. Six boats joined
together for a sunset sail on the harbor.
It is very enjoyable to sail with other
boats and then stop to watch for the
         “Green Flash.” Next, several boats
journeyed to Aqua Marina Palm Island
Resort for a pleasant weekend of sun,
fun, and dinner at the Rum Bay
restaurant. Also, we had a three-day
cruise to South Seas Marina and Resort,
which is a PGIslanders favorite. We
manage to cruise there three or four
times a year. This cruise was particularly
well attended with 19 boats cruising.
Finally, there was a lunch cruise to the
         Captain’s Table at Fisherman’s Village.

Social - The Social Committee has
compiled a list of favorite social activities
from past years and looked at social

opportunities in our area. From this they put
together a group of Proposed Social Events. I
would like to urge all of our members to look at
these proposed events, pick one that is of interest,
and sign up to be a chairperson. It isn’t hard and I
                                                                      think you would enjoy it.

Meet the Islanders - Interested in joining? Want to

are held the first Thursday of every month at the

PGICA building. Meetings start at 7 p.m., with a
presentation on a marine-related topic. We hold
an informal social on the second and fourth
Mondays of each month from 5 to 7 p.m. at St.
Andrews. For any questions about membership,
contact one of our Membership Directors,
Richard or Joann Collins, at 281-543-8781; or,
for other questions about the club, contact the
         Commodore at 815-985-2489. Even better,
c'mon down to see us at one of our meetings or
         socials.
