MARINERS OF PGI Susan Hills, Vice Commodore, 941-286-3452, vicecommodore@marinersofpgi.org

                                  Few people with ancraophobia
                                  become sailors. What are they
                                  afraid of? Ancraophobia is an
extreme fear of the wind. Luckily
this condition does not affect any
                                  of our members. Congratulations
to the sailors that took home
trophies for our eighth annual regatta. First place went to
Hugh and Rita Bass aboard “Life is Good”, their 35’ Pearson.
Second place winners were Jim Hebeisen, along with his
first mate Bob Toothaker aboard “ Tranquillo”, Jim’s 33’
Hunter. Third place winners were the Scharpf brothers,
Frank and Mike, aboard “Better Days”, Frank’s 30’ Hunter.

Several of our snowbird members have headed north. Those
members that have remained have enjoyed many cruises in
May. A group of sail and powerboats headed to the Keys, making stops and memories along the way between here and
Key West. From Key West they visited Bahia Honda State Park, Marathon, and Islamorada, before returning to Punta
         Gorda.

Lunch cruises are always popular with our members. May destinations included Gasparilla Waterside Grill, Barnacle’s
Island Resort, Tarpon Lodge on Pine Island and Miceli’s Restaurant at Matlacha. You can’t go wrong with any of these
cruises, when you are boating in the company of fellow Mariners.

The monthly breakfast with the gals was held at Burnt Store Grill. This
is always well attended, giving our female members a chance to share
                                                     conversation, while enjoying good food.

Our May meeting included an “Eat Before We
Meet” dinner before our general meeting.
Members were served Philly cheese steak
sandwiches with all the fixings, coleslaw, chips
