BEYOND OURSELVES Marlene Hofer, marlenehofer@comcast.net
Have you made any New Year’s resolutions to help the needy, the poor, the homeless? If you have, or even if you
haven’t, now is a great time to begin 2018 by making a decision to become active in Beyond Ourselves. We are the one
organization of the Punta Gorda Isles Civic Association that focuses on helping others who need help in Charlotte
County. We will meet at the PGICA on Wednesday, January 17 at 10 a.m. At these monthly meetings we decide
together and vote on which organizations need our help the most in our county. You are invited to attend and join our
group. Current members are also invited to come to our meetings. 2018 membership yearly dues are $10 and are due at
this time. Please make your check out to Beyond Ourselves and give it to Jeanne Gehrt,Treasurer. For more information
go to our web page listed below.
We all had a wonderful time at the Beyond Ourselves Bash, also known as the BOB, on November 11. It was a great
night of dining, dancing, and fun. Much thanks to Struss and Bob Shirk who went out of their way to make this such a
success. From the proceeds, we were very excited to make checks out to the following for $1,700 each: New Operation
Cooper Street, Back Pack Kidz, Charlotte Homeless Coalition, Peace River Wildlife Center, and Crossroads Hope
Academy.
The seventh annual Share the Love
for the Kids Home Tour begins
Saturday, February 3, from 10 to 4.
We have six beautiful homes and one
garden to experience. The Home Tour
begins at the Punta Gorda Isles Civic
Association. On January 2, we will
kick off online ticket sales with a
special 12-hour online only $20
ticket sale from 9 to 9 at
www.beyondourselves.peapps.com.
You can also purchase the $20 tickets
at the PGICA lobby on January 2 from
9 to 3. After these special times on
January 2, tickets will cost $25 and
can be purchased online or at the
PGICA lobby weekdays from January
22 to February 2. Please make checks
payable to Beyond Ourselves. On tour
day, February 3, tickets will be $30.
There will also be raffle baskets at the
PGICA. So gather your friends and
neighbors, make a day of it, and have fun trying to win one of these wonderful
baskets. And just think of it! You will be helping the children of Charlotte County
while spending a glorious day having fun looking at beautiful houses and
donating to very worthwhile causes.
If you wish to volunteer for the Home
Tour, we still need workers on February
3. Please contact Carol Nieberline at
cnieberline@yahoo.com.
Charlotte County Homeless Shelter: We
need volunteers to serve dinner at the
CCHC on Saturday, February 3, the
same day as the Home Tour. Arrive at
4:30 and leave by 6. Contact Ruth
Kliment at kliment2FL@comcast.net or
941-347-7776 to volunteer. Many thanks
for the generous food donations in the
lobby of the PGICA.
