PGICA building. A speaker will be announced in the Newcomers email blast. Free food will be provided by the club and
but drinks are your own responsibility. Sign up on the Newcomers web page calendar. Come in from the heat and
humidity and join fellow Newcomers regaling in the quiet of Punta Gorda in the summer.
The August 15 General Meeting will be at the PGICA building at 5:30. Christine Hause, VP of Trust & Investment
Management Services at Charlotte State Bank and Trust will present a talk specifically for full-timers about estate
planning, tax and financial rules and legalities necessary for living in Florida. Her talk will be followed by a little bit of club
business and dinner provided by the club. (Yes, it’s free again this month but you need to sign up so we know how many
folks will be joining us!) Drinks are BYOB.
Dine Around offers the opportunity to get out while the crowds are thinner. In a change of date, Monday, July 10 will be a
private buffet dinner at Mint, an Asian inspired restaurant at 615 Cross Street next to Acme Bike Shop. On August 23,
diners will be at Cass Cay Restaurant at 3200 Matecumbe Key Road in Burnt Store Marina. This starts at 6 p.m. and is
waterfront dining right in the marina area. For more information
contact Roseann Kruse at 941-916-1754 or
k2home@yahoo.com or MaryAnn Darst at 913-226-8471 or
madarst@kw.com. Sign up on the Club’s website calendar.
Club members have been Out and About in the area doing fun
and unusual activities. Susan McKittrick has made plans to go
to Gatorama at 6180 N US Highway 27 in Palmdale on July 22.
Sue promises there will be baby alligators to feed. Details on
this and other spontaneous bursts of fun things to do will be
provided in email blasts and on the Club’s website calendar.
There was a group who recently ventured out to Solomon’s
Castle near Arcadia who had a great time.
Darts with Newcomers and others will continue throughout the
summer on the last Tuesday of the month at the Ice House Pub,
408 Tamiami Trail. Contact Wayne Erickson at
wayneerickson48@gmail.com to get on the email list. He emails
all interested parties two weeks before the event. Meet around 5
to eat or be there by 5:45 p.m. to get your team assignment
(purely random). If you can’t make the event after signing up, let
Wayne know so that others wanting to play have the
opportunity. Judy Grosvenor and Wayne were winners of the
Solomon’s Castle May event while Mike Epting and Bob Henry were runners-up.
Book Club Chairwomen Lisa Koeneman at
540-580-5965 and Linda Cram at
401-474-2436 report they have a full complement of
12 full-time and part-time members. They are happy
to help any others who would like to start another
group within the club.
Yes, our summers are hot and sticky! What better
way to catch a breeze than a morning bike ride with
friends. Our Biking with Friends group meets at 8:30
a.m. on Thursday mornings behind the 7-Eleven and
down from the PGI Grill. We have a leisurely ten-mile
ride along Punta Gorda's beautiful waterfront, and
through its historic streets. Contact Sue
Manternach, sueman16@gmail.com, or
239-339-7517 for more information.
Steve Brown is membership chairman and is
