Cruising: This month we have a tag-along cruise
to Marathon and Key West. It is a three-week
cruise where PGIslanders can join in anywhere
along the way. Some of the destinations are Fort
Myers mooring field, Marco Island (Smokehouse
Bay) and Little Shark River; then on to Marathon
for a week of fun; then off to Key West for a few
days of partying before heading
back to PGI. We also have a
lunch cruise to the Isles Yacht
Club. In May, we'll take a
cruise to South Seas Resort.
Check out next month’s article Tag Along Cruise Leaders:
for all the details. Stephen Emmerman & Kathy Weber
Education and Entertainment: Our new education director, Michael Frank,
really had a fun segment at our March meeting. We hosted a night at the
movies with Mullet: A Tale of Two Fish, complete with a popcorn
machine. We learned everything you need to know and then some about
mullet, Florida’s most
Tag Along cruise to the Keys underrated fish. Did you
know that Florida, the
“Mullet Capital”, does
not consider mullet to
be one of its favorite
fish, while it is shipped
to other states and is
even a delicacy in
Europe? Everyone
really enjoyed the
evening, especially
when Chef Jesse
Tincher from the Blue
Dog Bar and Grill in Heading for the Keys
Matlacha came in after
Lunch Cruise to Isles YC the movie with some mullet dip and pickled jalapenos. Yummy! I have a
whole new opinion of mullet and can’t wait to head down to Matlacha
where every Monday night is mullet night. This month we welcome Bobby Brown, sales manager of Waterproof Charts
on Cross Street right here in Punta Gorda. Waterproof Charts started in 1984 and was the first company to recompile
NOAA information and print on tear-resistant, waterproof paper.
Social: PGIslanders will have a guided tour of the beautiful new Peace River Botanical & Sculpture Gardens on April 24.
The social team will probably sneak in a couple more events like they did in March with pottery night where the
PGIslanders had fun getting their hands dirty creating a
masterpiece! We also had an opportunity to go to the
Ginger Bistro in Fort Myers for an excellent Chinese
dinner and shopping afterward.
Please check out our website anytime to see what we are
up to. As you can see we add some quick little cruises
and social events just for the fun of it. Our website is at
www.pgislanders.org.
