Education - The very brief July meeting, which included no educational program, was held at
Laishley Park during the July 4 celebration. Our August meeting featured Ron Jones from the
Peace River Power Squadron who gave an interesting, well-received and much-appreciated
presentation with an emphasis on the programs, activities, and educational opportunities offered
by the Squadron. William Maymon from the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office Water Patrol will be
discussing the Patrol’s wide-ranging activities at our September meeting.
Cruising - The weather during July and August was not helpful, causing
several cruises to be canceled. However, the rest of the year looks to be
very busy. In October, Juan and Genevieve Lesieux will captain a cruise to
South Seas followed by Ron Vendegna and Tyler Swanson leading us to
the Fort Myers River District. Besides enjoying the excellent downtown
district, we will sample their famous maple bacon donuts. Currently, we
have four cruises planned for November. On November 3 to 5, Jim and
Joann Waschbusch will take us to Venice for the Venice Fine Arts Show.
Following Venice, we will have our Annual Cruise to Nowhere captained by
Sue and Gene Fuller. Also in November, we will go to Marina Jack’s with
Chris and Diane Port and to Longboat Key Club with Kevin and Nan Lee.
After this busy November, December will feature our traditional visit to
South Seas for their Holiday Stroll; Kevin and Nan Lee will lead us on that
cruise.
Social - During the summer we had several social events, starting with
lunch at Jason’s Deli followed by a movie organized by JoAnn
Nemeth. Nan Lee took us to the River City Grill for a dining experience
with their two-for-one menu making the meal very inexpensive. Also,
we continued a tradition with the Annual July 3 meeting and barbecue
at Laishley Park with
Archie and Margo Farr. A
trip to Caspersen Beach
in Venice for swimming,
sunning, shelling, and
shark-teeth, followed by a
delicious lunch at Sharky’s on the Pier was led by Joanne and Richard
Collins. Finally, and last but not least, Joann Waschbusch organized our
annual bowling event, The Big Lebowski, to round out the summer.
