ACBL DUPLICATE BRIDGE Mary Chupak, 941-575-1755, chupak@comcast.net
Hi Sarah: My partner and I are now playing Two Over One. Partner opened
the bidding with 1 Diamond and I responded 2 Clubs. This bidding
sequence is now game forcing in the system we are playing. He held ♠6 3 2;
♥A 9 6 4; ♦A K T 6 3; ♣Q. His rebid was 2 Hearts, and I responded 2
Spades. He now rebid 2 No Trump and I rebid my long club suit. He rebid 3
Diamonds and I bid 6 Diamonds. I held ♠A K 8 4; ♥None; ♦J 5 4; ♣A K J T 8
6. The contract made 6 since the diamond Queen was offside. Was
partner’s 2 Heart rebid a true reverse showing extra points? Mike Breen
Congratulations on a well bid, beautiful hand! Over the years, most players
have worked on improving their bidding. Many people think that the Two
Over One system is the new Standard American. When I first started
playing Two Over One, a reverse by opener promised extra values. A true
reverse is a bid made by opener of a suit higher ranking than two of his first
bid suit. Times have changed! In the Two Over One Game Force textbook
by Audrey Grant and Eric Rodwell, they state that “a new suit at the two
level doesn’t promise any extra strength, even when it is higher-ranking than
opener’s first suit.” The logic is that after the Two Over One sequence has
started, the partnership is committed to game! Partners need to discuss how they want to play it.
Please join us at 1 p.m., on Mondays and Fridays for ACBL Duplicate Bridge. October is Club Appreciation Month.
Special games with extra masterpoints will be held for each daily session. The Wednesday game will begin the season
with the special game on October 25. That is great news for all of us! Hope to see you there! Sarah Robin. Email:
